“Pass me a cold one”

When you reach for a cold beer, you have several kinds to choose from. You’re probably contemplating about the taste. But do you know what else you’re bound to get, like calories and carbs?

Below is a bunch of information on the actual truth about beer calories, what’s in it, the benefits, and so on…

“What’s in beer?”

Beer is consistently made from water, grain, hops, and yeast. Malted barley is the most generally used grain. It’s mostly flavored with hops to accumulate bitterness to balance the sweetness of the malt. The hops also act as a preservative. Beyond any doubt, brewer’s yeast simmers the brew into alcohol.

Some brews are made with other grains, like wheat, maize, or rice instead of barley. And some use fruits, herbs, and spices to create uniquely-delicious beers.

Beer’s liquor content ranges from less than 3% to 40% depending on the beer fashion and recipe. Most pale lagers are about 4% to 6% alcohol.

Restrict yourself to no more than one drinks per day for women, and two drinks per day for men. One single drink is 12 ounces of normal beer.

The hops, yeast, and grains in beer provides carbs, a small quantity of B vitamins, and potassium. But do not get the intention that you’re going to get your nutrients from beer, or to drink beer or any other alcoholic beverage for health advantages. And if you don’t drink now, most health professionals don’t advise that you ever start.

“The beer calories… Watch the beer belly!”

I’m pretty sure you’ve all heard of the ‘beer belly.’ But beer isn’t necessarily to blame. People sporting beer bellies don’t usually have great diets or get enough exercise. Too many beer calories of any kind can result in a ‘beer belly.’ Yet, drinking too much beer is often blamed as the culprit for the abdominal pouch. Liquid calories are easy to overdo. You don’t get a sense of fullness, and with the average of 12 ounce beer containing 150 calories, it adds up really quickly.

“So what do you do?”

When you want to enjoy a beer, but you want to avoid some of the beer calories, a nutrition consultant for the Nation Beer Wholesalers Association recommends choosing a light beer that has 64-110 calories. Keep in mind that alcohol makes you hungry and lowers your inhibitions, so you may eat more than you planned to when you’re drinking. And of course, if you’re drinking, don’t drive!
