Eye Symbol as Portal and Flow Direction in Egyptian Imagery
This eye is a portal symbol, mostly. I posted a few weeks ago that eye-portals tended to be used for outflows. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1PdQrHtmuu/ I ran across some fun Egyptian examples, mixed ways of using the symbol.
Image A uses arms, which are horizontal flow connection symbols, but have no specific direction. Holding a container with a wider brim, that brim could represent the barrier to a new reality, but in this case, the actual barrier is the edge of the wavy sidehill. The candles do the penetration and the fires are on the opposite side of the barrier. Coincidentally that red cloth on the back of the chair is also doing upward flow crossing the barrier and then making a loop-back onto the seat. I'm not sure of the significance of those fires connecting to the flail. Overall the flail is an upward flow symbol. The curved-beak hawk symbol is the opposite bidirectional/downward side.
Image B has an snake from the horizontal plane that goes downward. Usually snakes would be outflow away from the eye, but this snake has a bucket head symbol for downward flow. Meanwhile the vulture has an upward flow hat. So an Up and Down pattern, and the eye in the middle is within the center flow path, the black iris could be like the void core of a torus. I'm just saying what I'm seeing.
Image C in the bottom corners has a long-neck-bird and a snake showing flows going toward the center. The center "person" would be interchangeable with a ring portal symbol. One day, I hope to figure out that one-knee-up pose. It's probably portal related.
Image D and E show pairs of these eyes, very common. The shovel of D is an upward flow, and the red circle is the portal symbol to the next higher reality. E has 3 layers of barrier, the brim of the container, the zigzag black line, and the bottom of the shen, and the red circle of the shen is the actual portal. Two eyes and one red circle... add up to 3 potential portals, but it seems like the intent is they all combine into one red circle portal, maybe.
