Hammer Symbolism and Upward Energy Flow
Many types of object-symbols seem to be weapons but are directional flow symbols, like the sword, and a weapon showing an over-the-top flow path to the other side is a common occurrence in pictograms.

https://ca.pinterest.com/stevenbhalls/scythe-sickle/ Axe and hatchet symbols seem similar at first to a hammer held upward, but curved axe blades is a good hint, because straight things tend to mean upward and curves mean downward.
https://ca.pinterest.com/stevenbhalls/axe/ Image B has a diagonal crossing of a straight and a curved handle.
"X" crossings are usually by an upward and a downward flow path.
Tongs are a symbol, they are an outflow symbol, and sometimes held upward, but often their outflow is horizontal or slightly downward, image C and image H even has some water.
https://ca.pinterest.com/stevenbhalls/tongs/ Image H has what you also see on Arm and Hammer baking soda.
I think the pointed part of the hammer head shows where it can do a downward loop-back to the other side, or center.
Image E is another diagonal crossing "X" layout, the curve is the downward, the hammer handle is the upward.
Popularly considered a communist symbol, it has a non-political hidden meaning too with two polarities combined.
Image G has lilies ( a downward marker) with buds (makes it bidirectional) on the opposite side of the hammer.

I made this post about the hammer, after expanding my collection, just to be confident that a hammer is upward.
